Whip Around vs Fleetio
Whip Around publishes on this matchup twice. Fleetio, the larger company, is absent from its own head-to-head entirely. That asymmetry is worth naming before anything else, because it means every existing answer comes from one side.

We make ReportWalk, an inspection app — closer in shape to Whip Around than to Fleetio, and you should weigh this page accordingly. Neither company has any relationship with us.
The short answer
Whip Around
Choose Whip Around if inspections are the problem. It is built around the walkaround and the defect that comes out of it, and it does not ask you to adopt a maintenance system to get there.
Fleetio
Choose Fleetio if you need the inspection to become a work order against a vehicle with parts, cost and history attached. That chain is what you are buying and an inspection app cannot substitute for it.
This is genuinely a question about which problem you have, not which product is better. A fleet with a maintenance backlog and a fleet with a paperwork problem should buy different things.
Who actually switched, and why
We found no documented migration between Whip Around and Fleetio in either direction. Demand for this comparison is inferred from vendor investment — Whip Around has built two pages and a third vendor has refereed it — not from observed switching.

Where they genuinely differ
Two different products wearing similar words
Whip Around is inspection software: the walkaround, the defect, the record. Fleetio is fleet management with inspections inside it.
Both will show you a DVIR. Only one will tell you what that vehicle has cost you over three years.
Offline, quoted from the documentation
Fleetio's help documentation states offline functionality is currently only available for inspection submissions, and that pending inspections will not upload when the app is closed or minimised.
We did not find equivalent published offline documentation for Whip Around, which is a gap in our research rather than a finding about the product.
Pricing
Fleetio is around $4 per vehicle per month billed annually. Whip Around does not publish a per-seat or per-vehicle figure we could capture with a date, so that stays contact sales.
What each is honestly better at
Whip Around
Doing the inspection properly without asking you to adopt anything else. For a fleet whose actual problem is that pre-trips are on paper or not happening, it addresses that directly rather than as one module of a larger system.
Fleetio
Everything after the inspection. Maintenance scheduling, parts, fuel, service history and cost per vehicle — the data that turns a failed walkaround item into a decision. At roughly $4 a vehicle it is also inexpensive for what it does.
What we could not verify
- Any migration between these two products, in either direction.
- Whip Around's current pricing, and its offline behaviour — neither is published in a form we could cite.
- Reddit was unreachable in every research session.
If neither fits — a third shape of tool
If you are weighing these because pre-trips are not getting done, the binding constraint is usually how long the form takes a driver in the rain, not which platform holds it. ReportWalk records the walkaround by voice and works with no signal, and has no fleet management at all — a narrower answer than either of the above.
