Fleetio vs Simply Fleet
One of these vendors has built a page about the other, and the other has never responded. For a small fleet, the comparison is mostly arithmetic — and the arithmetic favours the challenger clearly enough that it is worth saying plainly.

We make ReportWalk, an inspection app. We are closer in shape to the inspection half of these products than to the fleet-management half, and you should read this knowing it. Neither company has any relationship with us.
The short answer
Fleetio
Choose Fleetio if the fleet is the business — maintenance history, parts, fuel, service records and vehicle lifecycle across enough vehicles that the data compounds. It is the more complete system and it is not close.
Simply Fleet
Choose Simply Fleet if you run under five vehicles. It is free at that size with three users, and $2 per vehicle per month after. For a small operation the value is hard to argue with.
If the only thing you need is the daily walkaround and a defect record, both of these are larger than your problem and you are paying for vehicle history you will not read.
Who actually switched, and why
We found no documented switch between Fleetio and Simply Fleet in either direction. The adjacent evidence above shows the shape of the decision without being evidence about this pair, and we are labelling it as exactly that.

Not a switch between the two products on this page. We include it because it is the clearest statement of the price-ceiling decision small fleets are actually making, and it is why Simply Fleet wins them.
Where they genuinely differ
Price, from each vendor's own page
Simply Fleet is free under five vehicles with three users, then Essential at $2 per vehicle per month and Advanced at $4.
Fleetio is around $4 per vehicle per month billed annually, working out at roughly $20 to $25 a month for five vehicles. Its Pro and Premium tiers are annual-only.
At five vehicles the gap is small. The gap that matters is the free tier underneath it.
Offline, where Fleetio is narrower than it markets
Fleetio's help documentation states that offline functionality in its mobile app is currently only available for inspection submissions, and that pending inspections will not upload when the app is closed or minimised.
A driver who finishes a walkaround, locks the phone and drives off is the normal case, and it is the one that does not complete the upload. Worth knowing before you build a compliance process on it.
Simply Fleet states you can complete inspections where cell service is unavailable. One reviewer reports that uploading fill-ups and services still needs a connection.
Voice, stated accurately
Simply Fleet advertises voice capture for fill-ups, expenses, mileage and issues. It does not appear on its DVIR or inspection page, so we would not assume it drives the inspection form.
Fleetio makes no voice claim anywhere we checked.
What each is honestly better at
Fleetio
Joining the inspection to everything downstream. A failed item becomes a work order against a specific vehicle with parts and cost attached, and that vehicle's history accumulates into something you can actually make decisions with. For a real fleet operation, that link is why the software exists.
Simply Fleet
Costing almost nothing at small scale while still covering maintenance, fuel and inspections rather than just one of them. For a five-van operation currently running on a spreadsheet, it is a sensible first system that costs nothing to find out about.
What we could not verify
- Any direct migration between these two products. We found none in either direction.
- Whether Simply Fleet's offline inspection capture holds up in practice — the vendor claims it, one reviewer partially contradicts it on other features, and we have not tested it.
- Reddit was unreachable in every research session, and fleet operators discuss this kind of decision there heavily.
If neither fits — a third shape of tool
If the walkaround is the only part of this you need, both products are bigger than the job. ReportWalk records the walk and produces the document, with voice capture and full offline operation, and has no vehicle history at all — which is either the point or a dealbreaker depending on what you are solving.
