Simply Fleet vs Whip Around
Both of these are phone-first inspection tools at the affordable end of fleet software, which makes this the most directly comparable pair in the category — and one of the least written about.
Who wrote this, and what we sell
We make ReportWalk, an inspection app. These two are the closest products in this entire study to what we build, which is a reason to read this page sceptically. Neither company has any relationship with us, and our own tool appears once, at the bottom.
The short answer
Simply Fleet
Choose Simply Fleet if you run under five vehicles. It is free at that size with three users, and it covers maintenance and fuel alongside inspections rather than inspections alone.
Whip Around
Choose Whip Around if inspections are the whole job and you want a product built around them rather than around the vehicle record.
The honest note is that these two are close enough that price and trial experience should decide it, not a feature table. Both are cheap enough to test properly.
Who actually switched, and why
No documented migration exists between Simply Fleet and Whip Around in either direction. This is a shortlist comparison, not a switching path, and the only vendor page on the pair is written by one of the two.

Not a switch between the two products here. It is Simply Fleet's only documented inbound switch and it shows what pulls small fleets toward it — free-tier ceilings.
Where they genuinely differ
Scope
Simply Fleet covers inspections, maintenance and fuel. Whip Around is focused on inspections and the defects that come out of them.
If you want a vehicle record as well as a walkaround record, that is the difference. If you do not, the extra scope is surface area you will not use.
Pricing
Simply Fleet is free under five vehicles with three users, then $2 per vehicle per month on Essential and $4 on Advanced.
Whip Around does not publish a figure we could capture with a date, so that stays contact sales rather than becoming an estimate.
Voice, stated precisely
Simply Fleet advertises voice capture, scoped on its homepage to fill-ups, expenses, mileage and issues. It does not appear on its DVIR page, so we would not tell you it drives the inspection form.
We found no voice claim from Whip Around.
What each is honestly better at
Simply Fleet
Costing nothing at small scale while covering more than inspections. For an operator currently running maintenance records in a notebook, getting inspections and vehicle history in the same free tool is a straightforwardly good outcome.
Whip Around
Doing one thing without asking you to adopt a system. A product built around the walkaround tends to make the walkaround faster, and for a fleet whose only problem is that pre-trips are not getting done, focus is the feature.
What we could not verify
- Whip Around's pricing and offline behaviour, neither of which is published in a form we could cite.
- Any migration between the two products.
- Whether Simply Fleet's offline inspection capture holds up in practice.
- Reddit was unreachable in every research session.
If neither fits — a third shape of tool
Both of these will do the walkaround. The question worth asking of any of them, ours included, is what happens in a yard with no signal and a driver in the rain — test that on a trial rather than reading about it. ReportWalk is a third option in the same shape, with voice capture and everything written to the phone before it reaches a server.
