Spectora is the default in US home inspection, and for a lot of people it should stay that way. But 2026 produced a specific, dated reason that people are looking — and it is not price.
Why people are looking
Fixle, in your client portal, with no way to turn it off
In spring 2026 the Fixle integration began appearing in client portals. The complaint in review after review is not that it exists — it is that there is no opt-out.
For an inspector, the client portal is the last thing the customer sees with your name on it. Two 1-star and 0-star reviews on 1 April 2026, from an owner and a principal at separate firms, say the same thing in different words. Both are quoted below.
$1,090 a year, and $99 a month for each extra inspector
That is $109 a month, or $1,090 paid annually. Add a second inspector and it is another $99 a month on top — so a two-person firm is around $2,278 a year before anything else.
For a full-time inspector running several jobs a week that is straightforwardly worth it. For someone doing four inspections a month it is roughly $23 an inspection in software alone.
The newer version, from long-standing users
A CEO with fifteen years on the product describes the new version as less user-friendly, slower and glitchier. A second, a CEO at a different firm, describes support lag becoming normal.
Worth being precise: reviewers say 'the new version'. The only rewrite the company ever named publicly was Spectora Next Gen, back in 2023, so treat any blog post confidently describing a 'Spectora 2.0' as invented.
Offline depends on what you did that morning
A full inspection does run offline. But you have to import it while you still have signal, and sync afterwards. Miss the import and you do not have the inspection.
That is a real constraint rather than a flaw, and it is the difference between 'works offline' and 'works offline without planning for it'.

Spectora acquired HomeGauge on 1 April 2025. Moving from one to the other is no longer moving to a different company.
The other side of it
What Spectora does that a report tool cannot
It is not inspection software. It is the operating system for an inspection business: scheduling, agent marketing, payments, the client portal, and your website, all in the same subscription.
Its support reputation was built on genuinely fast responses, and the 2026 complaints read as people who are disappointed precisely because they remember better.
If you replace Spectora with a reporting tool, you have to replace the rest of it with something. Be honest with yourself about what that costs in time.

What is Fixle and can I turn it off?
Fixle is an integration that began appearing in Spectora client portals in spring 2026. Multiple 1-star reviewers in April 2026 state there is no option to disable it, which is the substance of the complaint. Check with Spectora directly for the current position — this is a policy, and policies change.
Does Spectora work offline?
Yes, with one condition: the inspection has to be imported to the device while you still have signal, and synced afterwards. The inspection itself then runs without a connection.
Is HomeGauge a Spectora alternative?
Not really, any more. Spectora acquired HomeGauge on 1 April 2025, so you would be changing product but not company.
What is the cheapest home inspection report software?
