Spectora vs Scribeware
When inspectors on the forums list where they went after leaving a legacy product, two names recur. One of them has extensive coverage. The other has almost none, which is the only reason this page did not already exist.
Who wrote this, and what we sell
We make ReportWalk, a competing inspection app. We are not one of these two products and neither company has any relationship with us. Our own tool is mentioned once, at the bottom.
The short answer
Spectora
Choose Spectora if you want the larger ecosystem, frequent releases and the product most of the category has standardised on. Scale has practical benefits — more people to ask, more templates circulating.
Scribeware
Choose Scribeware if the report itself is what you are optimising and you want something built more deliberately around the writing. Inspectors who chose it describe it as covering what they needed rather than as the obvious default.
Both are destinations for people leaving something older. If that is you, the thing to compare is not features but how each handles the template you are bringing.
Who actually switched, and why
We found no documented migration between Spectora and Scribeware in either direction. Both appear as destinations from older products, which makes this a shortlist comparison rather than a switching path. A third inspector, Michael Senty, has described planning to move from HomeGauge's Web Writer to Scribeware; we could not confirm the outcome.

Where they genuinely differ
Scale, and what it gets you
Spectora is the larger product by a wide margin, with the network effects that brings: more inspectors to ask, more shared templates, more third parties building around it.
Scribeware is smaller and correspondingly less written about, which is why the evidence on this page is thinner than we would like.
What we could not price
Spectora lists at $109 a month. We did not capture current Scribeware pricing from the vendor's own page with a date, so we are not quoting a figure.
What each is honestly better at
Spectora
Ecosystem and momentum. Frequent releases, the largest installed base in US home inspection, and enough people using it that any problem you hit has probably been solved publicly by someone else.
Scribeware
Being chosen deliberately rather than by default. The inspectors who name it describe evaluating it against a list and finding it covered everything — which is a different kind of endorsement from picking the market leader.
What we could not verify
- The year of Scot Baker's forum post, and the date of Logan Gratehouse's.
- Current Scribeware pricing.
- Whether Scot Baker's characterisation of 'many HG users' moving to Scribeware is borne out. It is one inspector's impression of a trend, not a measurement.
- This is a low-volume query and we are writing it because the audience is exactly right, not because the traffic is.
- Reddit was unreachable in all sessions.
If neither fits — a third shape of tool
Both of these are report writers, and both will ask you to bring your template across. If that migration is what is stopping you, it is worth solving separately from the software choice — we rebuild inspection templates by hand, free, whichever product you are heading to.
