Choose Spectora if you want a modern web platform shipping frequently, and if the report's appearance to clients and agents is part of how you compete.

What Carson Dunlop actually is
Carson Dunlop is an inspection education and consulting firm first, with software as part of that. Horizon carries reference material and report structure shaped by that teaching background.
For an inspector who trained through Carson Dunlop, the software and the education speak the same language. That is a real form of fit and it does not show up on a feature table.
Development pace
Spectora's release cadence is public and frequent. We could not find equivalent public release notes for Horizon, which is a gap in our research rather than a finding about the product.
What each is honestly better at
Horizon
Depth of inspection knowledge baked into the product, and the Canadian context. Its report structure comes from a training organisation rather than a software company, and for inspectors who learned that way it fits how they already think.
Spectora
Modern web delivery, visible ongoing development, and a report clients and agents recognise as current. It is where both documented leavers went.
What we could not verify
- Current pricing for Horizon. We did not capture a figure from Carson Dunlop's own page with a date, so we are not quoting one.
- Horizon's release cadence. We could not find public release notes, which means we cannot compare development pace fairly — and we would rather say that than imply the absence of notes is the absence of development.
- Why Adam C. and Karen C. left. Capterra recorded the direction, not the reason.
- A search caveat: 'Horizon' collides with dozens of unrelated products. If you go looking for reviews, include 'Carson Dunlop' in the query.
- Reddit was unreachable in all sessions.
