XOi alternatives
for one technician, not a fleet

XOeye Technologies → XOi

XOi does something genuinely clever — it identifies equipment and puts thirty thousand manuals behind the camera. It is also sold to fleets, priced privately, and there is a detail in the reviews worth pausing on.

Why people are looking

Reviewers describe shooting photos outside the app

Not a complaint anybody filed as a complaint — a workflow people mention in passing. They take photographs with the phone camera and batch-upload them later.

That is usually what a capture experience looks like when it is slow, or when it needs a connection. XOi makes no offline claim anywhere, so we cannot confirm the cause, and we are not going to assert one. But if capture is the reason you are buying, ask about it specifically and watch what technicians actually do during a trial rather than what the demo shows.

No published pricing

Capterra lists roughly $99 per user per month. The vendor publishes nothing. For a fleet buyer a quote is normal; for anyone evaluating on their own time it is a wall.

Built for fleets, funded for fleets

A $230 million raise and the Specifx acquisition in February 2025, then J.P. Morgan debt financing in May 2026.

That is a company building for commercial HVAC and mechanical fleets, which is a coherent strategy and also a clear statement about who the product is not for.

The other side of it

The thing nothing else here does

Over thirty thousand equipment manuals and machine-learning equipment identification, which turns documentation into diagnostics. Point the camera at a unit, get the model identified and the manual with it.

For a technician in front of unfamiliar equipment at two in the morning, that is worth more than any reporting feature.

No documentation tool below replicates it, and we would not claim to.

What the reviews say

Which in this case is almost nothing — and that is worth saying

Research note — not a user review

We found no dated negative review of XOi inside our eighteen-month window worth publishing, and no statement about offline behaviour from the vendor in either direction.

The observation about technicians photographing outside the app comes from reviewers describing their own workflow, not from complaints. We are reporting it as the indirect signal it is, rather than dressing it up as a finding.

The alternatives

Every price below is the published list price for a single user at the time of writing. Where offline behaviour is undocumented by the vendor, it says so rather than guessing.

ServiceTitan

Works offline

Contact sales

per technician per month, with a 12-month minimum

Best for
Residential trades businesses of ten or more technicians: booking, dispatch, financing, marketing attribution.
Offline
Documented and broad — notes, photos, forms, equipment, invoice items and job close-out all work offline. Community threads report sync failures in practice.
Watch out for
2026 reviewers report multi-year contracts they say were not disclosed, and cancellation refused mid-term.

BuildOps

Undocumented

Contact sales

no free tier and no published trial

Best for
Commercial MEP contractors of twenty to five hundred technicians, where field capture feeds dispatch, service agreements and invoicing.
Offline
Marketed as "offline-first architecture… works in basements, on roofs, in dead zones". That is a vendor claim with no independent confirmation we could find.
Watch out for
Commercially unreachable for a solo operator, and a March 2026 reviewer reports functions disappearing after updates.

Zuper

Offline, with limits

Contact sales

no public pricing page

Best for
Field service businesses that want dispatch, scheduling and invoicing wrapped around the inspection.
Offline
Documented but limited: jobs, checklists, notes and inspection forms work offline. Quotes and invoices do not, attached images are not cached, and offline data expires after one day.
Watch out for
The one-day offline expiry and uncached images are the two limits that matter in the field.

CompanyCam

Offline, with limits

$63/mo

Core, 1 user, billed annually · +$29/user

Best for
A crew's photos as a shared system of record — auto timestamp, geotag, visible in the office the moment they're taken.
Offline
Bounded. Photos, video, captions and new projects work offline — but only 60 projects are cached, and a checklist has to be opened before you lose signal.
Watch out for
It is a photo system, not a report writer. The Marketing Suite was unbundled at $79–99/mo on top.

ReportWalk

Works offline

Free to start

monthly plans for higher volumes

Best for
One person who needs the report finished before they leave the site.
Offline
Photos, voice notes and answers are written to the phone first and sync when signal returns. A whole inspection can run in a basement with no bars.
Watch out for
iPhone only, and it is deliberately not a business platform — no scheduling, no invoicing, no CRM.

Disclosure — this is our site

Where ReportWalk fits

For the individual technician or the two-person shop XOi is not sold to. Free to start, no fleet, no quote, no minimum.

On the capture question we will be specific, because it is the interesting one here: photographs go into the phone's own storage as you take them, with GPS, time and weather attached automatically. There is no upload step to wait on and no reason to leave the app to use the camera.

Where we lose

No equipment identification, no manual library, no diagnostics. If the reason you want XOi is that it tells a technician what they are looking at, nothing here does that.

Questions

How much does XOi cost?

Not published. Capterra lists roughly $99 per user per month, but the vendor publishes no pricing, so that figure is third-party.

Does XOi work offline?

No claim exists anywhere — the vendor says nothing in either direction and no review resolves it. Reviewers describing photographing outside the app and batch-uploading later is suggestive but not evidence. Test it.

Is XOi available for a single technician?

It is built and sold for commercial HVAC and mechanical fleets. There is no published self-serve tier.

What is the best XOi alternative for documentation?

CompanyCam at $63 a month for team photo capture, ServiceTitan if you need it integrated into dispatch and invoicing, and ReportWalk free to start for the report itself. None of them identify equipment.

How this page was made

Prices come from vendor pricing pages, offline behaviour from vendor help documentation, and quotes from G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, GetApp and the App Store, each carrying its reviewer, source and date. Where a claim comes from a customer rather than the vendor, the page says so. Where something is undocumented, it says that too. Software pricing changes — check the vendor before you decide, and tell us if you find something here that has gone stale.
