Who wrote this, and what we sell

We make ReportWalk, an inspection app. We do not do roof measurement and we are not competing with either product here. This is an adjacent category for us and we are writing it for the reader, not the lead. Neither company has any relationship with us.

The short answer

HOVER

Choose HOVER if you want the model and the design tools alongside the measurement — the documented switchers name exactly that, and it is why they moved.

EagleView

Choose EagleView if aerial imagery coverage is what you need, particularly for properties or conditions where a ground-based capture is impractical. It remains the established name for insurance work.

If you need measurement inside a broader inspection report rather than as a standalone deliverable, both of these are specialists and you will be moving files between tools.

Who actually switched, and why

Four records inside five weeks, all pointing the same way, with zero reverse evidence found. That is as clean a directional signal as this research produced anywhere — while remaining a sampled corpus rather than a market measurement.

Where they genuinely differ

How the measurement is captured

EagleView's model is aerial imagery. HOVER's is ground-based capture from a phone, built into a 3D model.

That difference drives everything else, including what happens when a property is hard to photograph from above or when you are already standing in front of it.

What EagleView says about accuracy

EagleView publishes its own accuracy figure — 98.77% — as self-published material rather than as a response to HOVER. It runs no comparison page against HOVER anywhere we could find.

We are reporting that as a vendor claim. We have not tested either product's accuracy and neither has commissioned an independent comparison we could cite.

Pricing

Neither vendor's current pricing was captured from its own page with a date during this research, so we are not quoting figures.

What each is honestly better at

HOVER

The model and what you do with it afterwards. Every documented switcher named design tools and options rather than raw measurement, which suggests the value is in the workflow around the number rather than the number itself.

EagleView

Aerial coverage and its position in insurance workflows. Where a ground capture is impractical — steep, large or inaccessible roofs — imagery from above is not a preference but a requirement, and EagleView is the established name in claims processes.

What we could not verify

  • Any independent accuracy comparison between the two. EagleView self-publishes a figure; nobody has tested them head to head in a source we could cite.
  • Current pricing for either product.
  • Whether the April–May 2025 cluster of departures reflects a specific event. Four reviews in five weeks is either a pattern or a coincidence of review-solicitation timing, and we cannot tell which.
  • A domain note if you go searching: HOVER is hover.to, not hover.com — the latter is an unrelated domain registrar.
  • Reddit was unreachable in every research session.

If neither fits — a third shape of tool

If the measurement is one section of a roof inspection report rather than the deliverable, the report is the thing that needs building. ReportWalk produces client-ready inspection PDFs on site and does not measure roofs — you would still use one of the above for that.
